Helen was a highly valued member of the SGT council for many years. She was born in Somerset and was brought up in Devon. Following her schooling in Exeter, she gained her degree in Botany & Zoology from Cambridge University, reflecting and shaping her lifelong interest in plants and gardening. She subsequently became a Science teacher, which she did for several years before marrying and moving to Suffolk. She and Alan spent several decades creating a wonderful, wild garden from an unpromising field and their lake and woodland nearby, following the principle of right plant, right place.
The Service of Thanksgiving for her life is at 12 noon on Thursday 11th April in the Chapel at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, with a reception afterwards at the RHS. All are warmly welcome to come and celebrate her life.
