Holywells Park – Suffolk’s Unforgettable Garden Story

Holywells Park in Ipswich was researched as part of Suffolk’s Unforgettable Garden Story (SUGS) project, and has now been added to “Memorable Parks” in the Research and Heritage section of this website. It is closely associated with the Cobbold family who used the park’s spring water to feed their Brewery, and created a walled landscaped park in the 19th century. Whilst the Park did not receive a listing on Historic England’s Register – who ruled that its designed landscape is fairly modest and that it has undergone numerous changes and loss affecting its historic integrity – it nevertheless remains an important non-designated heritage asset in Suffolk.
