Formerly the Rectory, the house was built 1820 in a plain, white-brick, Georgian style for the Revd Thomas Methold by William Brown (1778-1851), architect, surveyor and timber merchant of St Nicholas Street, Ipswich (founder of the firm of timber merchants, Wm Brown & Co, now incorporated into Jewsons). The house and grounds have been renovated by Andrew Deacon over the last 35 years, and his excellent Music Room was the venue for our January talk.
