This visit has been changed from March to October 2022. All people who booked for the visit in March have had their tickets automatically changed to October.

Following Dr Rosemary Hoppitt’s talk on Suffolk deer parks (see p.7 of the Newsletter), this is a chance to visit the nationally important wooded landscape of a wonderfully preserved medieval deer park, accompanied by Rosemary herself and Gary Battell, the Suffolk County Council’s Woodlands Advisory Officer. The contorted shapes of the ancient pollarded oaks and hollies could have been realised from Tolkien’s imagination.

Tea and coffee will be provided in the Shepherd’s Cottage, or bring your own picnic. We will not be ‘dining under the oaks with entertainments and sports’, as Queen Mary of France and Charles Brandon did in 1528, but we hope it will still be an enjoyable event!

Member £7, Guests £9

Toilets available in Staverton Park at Shepherd’s Cottage where there is ample parking.
